God's
Redemptive Purposes for Central Florida
Pray Central Florida - July 1997
A study of God's redemptive purposes for Central Florida in the context of His purposes for our world, nation and state. May the Church pray for the fulfillment of these purposes.
Why did God create this world and man to begin with?
What were His purposes?
Some say that our purpose is to worship God (with the understanding that anything done for God is worship whether it be a worship service, leading others to Christ or helping someone in Jesus' name). This is good but I prefer to say that our purpose is to give God glory. I take my inspiration for this from noted author Steve Hawthorne who calls the bible "The Story of His Glory". This definition - to give God glory, includes all God's creation. The whole earth testifies of God's glory, as does God's dealings with mankind.
Why did God cause the United States of America to be
founded and established, what are His purposes?
Christopher Columbus wrote how God was leading him to undertake his voyage and sustained him during the voyage on which he discovered America. This was the first nation founded strongly upon Christian principles and God has richly blessed us because of that. I believe that this nation is to show God's glory by being an ongoing demonstration of God's love and blessing upon a nation dedicated to Him. Much as in the Old Testament God blessed the people of Israel to draw the other nations to Himself, He has blessed our nation to draw people to Himself. I have met many people around the world who want to come to America and who love anything American. America sends out more missionaries than any other nation and well we should because "To whom much is given much is required". Therefore we have a responsibility to welcome those that would come and to explain to them why America is so blessed. Since the 1960s when prayer was taken out of schools our nation has been mocking God's grace and mercy. If we don't repent the Old Testament pattern is for God to remove His blessing and protection. Fortunately there are indications that we are starting to return to the Lord.
In summary then, the United States is a Christian nation blessed by God to glorify Him among all nations.
Why did God cause the state of Florida to be founded, what are His purposes?
Florida is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. We also have an already large and growing immigrant population. These people may not know it but they are being drawn here to catch a glimpse of the glory of God! Our state is to be a center of world and national evangelization. Our proximity to Central America is also no accident. I don't have anywhere near a complete picture but I think all the recreation opportunities and a large retiree population also are no accident.
What are God's purposes for the Central Florida area?
God's purposes relating to tourists and immigrants flow down from the state level. We are to be a place of world evangelization. This job is far too big for any one church or denomination, we need to have a city-wide response to this call.
All the places of recreation are no accident. God wants Central Florida to be a place of refreshing and renewal. This probably includes secular wholesome family entertainment as well as Christian conferences, etc. The problem is that the Church has allowed spirits of entertainment and/or pleasure, lust and witchcraft to pervert much of what is offered for entertainment here. These spirits also oppress many churches, rendering them and their members ineffective. We need to engage in spiritual warfare to stop the enemy from thwarting the purposes of God in our area. We also need more committed Christians in positions of influence in the entertainment industry.
Why did God cause individual cities in the Central Florida area to be founded, what are His purposes?
Casselberry - A place where God's living water would flow.
Please help me with other cities in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties.
